The Giant and the Guardian

Chapter 1: The Interception

The afternoon sun filtered through the thick canopy of oak trees in Centennial Park, casting a mosaic of golden light onto the paved walkways. It was a perfect Saturday, the kind of day that drew families, joggers, and street musicians out of their cramped city apartments and into the open air.

At the edge of the park’s main plaza, seven-year-old Leo sat proudly astride his brand new, bright orange KTM dirt bike. The engine was off; he was just pretending, gripping the handlebars with his small hands and making quiet "vroom" noises. He was wearing his favorite blue hoodie, his eyes wide with the innocent thrill of a child who had just received the best gift of his life.

A few yards away, Maya held up her smartphone, framing her little cousin perfectly in the shot. "Smile, Leo! Let me send this to Auntie!"

Before Leo could flash his missing-tooth grin, a shadow fell over him.

An officer in a tactical green uniform, bearing a heavy vest adorned with patches, stepped aggressively into the frame. His name tag was a blur, but his demeanor was sharp, authoritative, and immediately hostile. He leaned in so close to Leo that the boy instinctively shrank back, his small shoulders tensing.

"Where'd you steal this, huh?" the officer barked, his voice loud enough to turn the heads of nearby picnickers.

Maya froze, her thumb still hovering over the record button. She didn't stop filming. Her heart hammered against her ribs.

Leo’s eyes darted nervously. "I didn't steal it," he said, his voice trembling but remarkably brave.

The officer scoffed, leaning in closer, invading the child's space with a menacing glare. "Kids like you don't just get expensive toys. I asked you a question. Where did you get this bike?"

Leo gripped the handlebars tighter. "My dad bought it for me."

The officer smirked, a cruel twisting of his lips. "Right. Your dad. And where is he? You expect me to believe—"

The ground seemed to vibrate before the man even spoke.

A figure emerged from the periphery of the park, moving with a silent, heavy grace. He was a mountain of a man, his arms thick with corded muscle, wearing a bright orange tank top that matched the dirt bike perfectly. But it was his hair that caught the eye first—long, thick dreadlocks dyed a vibrant, striking green.
